This vintage photo was taken at the end of WWII when Chavanich Building was opened. I first saw it in 1970 when I arrived and it has been kept “safely” in a desk drawer for years! But time takes a toll and this is something we thought was beyond conservation. We were proved wrong!
“Before”

Problem: The photograph, which has been glued to cardboard is damaged and torn.
Conservation guidelines: Separate the image from the cardboard and clean up the glue stains. Repair both the cardboard, which has important messages printed on it, and the photograph and then put them together as before using quality glue. Mount it using museum matting and framing which is acid free and archival safe.
“After”

Survived since 1949 and now looks as good as new! If you have similar memorabilia in sad condition, now you know it CAN be restored!
When the conservators returned these 10 items to us, they took another 4 back with them–two huge paintings from my own office– which now looks forlorn and bare!
