I never catalogued the next two portraits of King Rama 9 and Queen Sirikit as part of the Collectibles Corner collection because they are not woodcuts or paintings but posters cut out from an old magazine. My husband bought them up country somewhere after we came back from the U.S. in 1970 and had them framed. They were in the company vestibule for years until they became dilapidated.
The conservators were very impressed with the images, however, and urged us to get them restored. The first portrait is of King Rama 9.
“Before”

Problem: The picture is torn, the color is peeling off, and the picture is stained with traces of insects creating a dirty buildup. The paper has become wavy and swollen.
Conservation Guidelines: Clean the picture by removing the dirt stains, strengthen the frame and repair the torn area. Separate the coloured layer from the original mounting board, repair the color and attach it the improved layer to a new mounting board.

Retouching the color before attaching the layer to the new mounting board.

“After”

Amazing restoration–the unsightly ripped torn areas are gone and the color is restored to the original tones and shades.
