Hang Nokyung Rerng Rabam (Flamboyant Dancing) by Nattawee Yeela was purchased by my husband at 9 Arts Gallery 786/11 Moo 3 Phaholyothin Rd. Wiang Muang, Chiangrai 5700 without me but it is one of my favorite works. The Northern Impressionist artists have been well represented by 9 Arts Gallery for 30 years.
“Before”

Problem: The oil paint has become dry and brittle and the entire surface of the painting shows cracking. The frame was damaged when a section of the ceiling at the gallery collapsed due to rain damage and this painting was thrown to the floor.
Conservation guidelines
Use chemicals to clean the existing varnish – remove the layer of cracked paint and touch up the color. Seal the layer so it adheres to the canvas thus reducing the surface cracks. Apply a new coat of varnish. Clean the frame and add a back panel to prevent damage from dust, insects or impact coming from the back.
