We found this portrait at CVN Gallery which opened at Seacon Square in th 1980s. We regularly stopped in there to see what was new and really missed it when it moved away when Seacon became so successful and raised its rent. We bought two paintings by this artist but cannot decipher his/her name. The Thai signature is delicate and microscopic! In this portrait, elegant Thai dancers costumed as Kinnaree are poised to perform.
“Before”

Problem: The oil problem in dry paint, steep conditions, brittle colors, cracking, no adhesion to the canvas.
Conservation guidelines
Use chemicals to clean the existing varnish – remove the layer of cracked paint and touch up the color. Seal the layer so it adheres to the canvas thus reducing the surface cracks. Apply a new coat of varnish. Clean the frame and add a back panel to prevent damage from dust, insects or impact coming from the back.
“After”

The painting is a beautiful as ever, but the name of the artist remains a mystery. We ask every artist who visits to try to identify the artist, but so far, no luck!
