24. Chit-Chat with the Curator: Solo Exhibition by Sa-gniam Yarangsee at MOCA

“Performance of Nature” is a collection of paintings showing the transformation of the artist’s impressionist style over 30 years. It will be on view at MOCA from Nov 1-25, 2020.

We have been collecting his work from the early days at Painter’s House on top of Maesalong–where he was staying with a beautiful dog, playing a violin and painting the clouds. We got our first work by him there, and it now hangs in our bedroom, an inspiration to get up every day! [At the gallery we have 27 of his paintings but at home we have 9 more–something in almost every room. They bring us pleasure, peace, and calm.

The works he is displaying at MOCA this time include work from his home province of Chiangrai: Doi Maesalong, Phu Chi Fa, Doi Pha Hi, Doi Pha Mi. When travelling to the south he painted the wonders of mountains, islands, rocks at the sea in Trang, Satun, and Krabi provinces. And his ventures abroad can be seen in his renditions from Bhutan’s Himalayas, Fukushima and Kyoto prefectures in Japan, and China.
