A new category of paintings has been added: Online Only. This includes wall hangings and paintings which are NOT on display at Collectibles Corner gallery but are hanging in our home. A photographer came to the house to take professional shots of these works so they can be shared with you virtually, if not in person.
As you can see, our favorites are “pretty,” or light hearted, chosen to create a pleasant environment. Nothing surreal, scary or ugly here! The range is eclectic,– beautiful landscapes dominate–but there are several portraits (of people and animals), as well as some still life. The Chavanich family has Chinese heritage, so we hung up some antique Chinese calligraphy too. A beautiful gilded mirror frame is also included here because it is covered in delicate lai rot nam paintings of birds, bees and flowers.
All the artists are documented in the Explore by Artist section on the Home Page. Three who have been newly added are: Prayat Pongdam, a national artist whose iconic woodcut of a crowing rooster and his family may be familiar to you; Robert A. Fryklund, my deceased father who was actually an engineer in the defense industry but he painted as a hobby to pass the time when he couldn’t be designing or building things. He painted “The Gift” to woo my mother when they were in high school and later painted “Cape Ann” when forced to stay home from work after he caught chicken pox. The third artist is Yailang, a woman whose water color paintings were sold at Chatuchak when she was an art student and I know nothing else about her.
Many of our favorite artists are represented here: Chaiwichit Sitthiwong, Chaiyo, Charoon Boonsuwan, Chatchai Kururatanakorn, Krit Wiang-ampol, Noparat Livisiddhi, Ronarong Thanomtap, and Sa-gniam Yarangsee, whose work is in almost every room of our house! We don’t know who created 8 items but enjoy their artistry and craftsmanship every day.
