Siamese Heritage Trust study trip to ”Multi-Cultural Bangrak District” on February 8, 2020, organised by the Siam Society stopped off at Collectibles Corner! We were so honoured!
The 36 visitors started their study trip at Chiao Eng Biao Shrine near Taksin Bridge at 1:30 and made their way to Prince Theater Heritage Stay, East Asiatic Co., Ltd., Assumption Cathedral, O.P. Place, Haroon Mosque, Central Post Office and arrived at Warehouse 30 at 4:45 for a 30 minute visit before continuing to House No. 1, Embassy of Portugal and the Rose Hotel. The study trip aimed to enhance knowledge of cultural heritage management and conservation, cultural diversity and history of the heritage places on Charoen Krung Road.
Collectibles Corner is located in Chavanich Building in the Warehouse 30 compound. These structures were included on the tour because they are “examples of historic buildings that are being reused nicely.” The visitors and I were interested in Dr. Yongtanit Pimonsathean’s comments about the art deco architectural style of Chavanich Building which he deemed a very good example! The history of the warehouses built by the invading Japanese during WW II was related by me (see the next Chat!). A few pictures, credited to Siam Society are included below.
